You start your Costa Rica adventure with a trip to the “little Amazon of Costa Rica”.
Early morning pick-up from your city hotel. Drive through the Braulio Carillo National Park to the Atlantic coast. On the way, stop for a hearty breakfast in Guapiles. Then drive through extensive banana plantations to the boat landing stage. There you change to a motorboat, which takes you across the main canal through the Tortuguero region to a rustic but comfortable lodge situated on a spit of land between the canal and the sea.
If you wish, you can visit the picturesque Caribbean village of Tortuguero with the local guide after lunch and then return to the lodge.
The rest of the day is at leisure.

Laguna Lodge Tortuguero
Laguna is an ecotourism lodge in Tortuguero in the northern Caribbean of Costa Rica. The area has amazing rivers, lakes and wetlands that protect a lush jungle of primary forests and exotic plants.
The lodge is located on a narrow strip of land, 200 feet wide, between the main lagoon of Tortuguero and the Caribbean Sea. The rooms, reception, restaurant, bar and swimming pools are spread over 6 hectares of beautiful gardens with stunning views of the lagoon and direct access to the beach.
Since 1990, Laguna Lodge has become the leading hotel in the region due to its infrastructure, friendly staff and care for nature and the community.
Today you will visit the world-famous Tortuguero National Park by boat, one of the most important habitats of the green sea turtle, the leatherback turtle and the hawksbill turtle. Here you can admire tropical nature at its best: Caimans, crocodiles, poison dart frogs, monkeys and manatees are just a few examples of the overwhelming wildlife in Tortuguero. You will then explore the area around the lodge with a guide.
In the afternoon, you will go on a boat tour through the jungle canals of Tortuguero National Park.
After dinner, there is the option of a guided night hike to the beach to watch the sea turtles lay their eggs (season: July to September/October).

Free days on the Caribbean coast! Long walks on wild beaches, impressive panoramic views of the Caribbean coast in the Manzanillo nature reserve followed by a swim at the tranquil Punta Uva beach, snorkeling or diving, sloth hunting in the Cahuita National Park or sporting activities such as mountain biking or kayaking.
Afterwards, treat yourself to a delicious fruit shake and try the traditional “Rice & Beans”, which is prepared with coconut milk.
Namuwoki Lodge

You continue the round trip after breakfast and drive back along the Atlantic lowlands to Guápiles. Via “Muelle” you will then reach the village of La Fortuna, situated at the foot of the Arenal volcano, around midday. In good weather, the almost perfect cone can be seen from afar.

Today you can visit El Mirador 1968, which is located right next to the Arenal National Park. You have 2 options to explore and enjoy the volcano and the natural surroundings.
For example:
‘Sendero El Bosque 1968’. The hike through the predominantly secondary forest takes about 2 hours. During this hike you can observe various animals such as monkeys, toucans and oropendolas. The hike is classified as moderate to advanced. There is also the hiking trail ‘Colada 1968’. This is 1 km long and easily accessible. You can enjoy fantastic views of the volcano or the lake. Among other things, you can cross part of the old lava, a testimony to the historic eruption of 1968.

The Hacienda Guachipelin is located at the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja volcano in the north-western region of Guanacaste. The hacienda borders the popular Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Natural hot springs, virgin forests, jungle waterfalls and volcanic clay pots are just some of the many attractions that tourists can enjoy during their stay at the hacienda.
Hacienda Guachipelin is truly an ecotourism lodge for adventure travelers and nature lovers. The accommodation is surrounded by lush gardens with native trees, exotic flowers and many bird species. You have the opportunity to get a view of the Rincón de la Vieja volcano and the Pacific Ocean. The property consists of 1,600 hectares of land, most of which is reserved.
After breakfast, you begin your hikes in the national park: the route takes about 2 hours, alternating between wet forest, crossing several mountain streams and dry, hot savannahs with little vegetation, until you finally reach the “La Cangreja” waterfall, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pools filled with clear turquoise blue water. Afterwards, you hike on to the main attractions of the national park in the Las Pailas sector: bubbling mud holes, geysers and stinking fumaroles (steaming fissures) give you an impressive insight into the natural forces of a volcano.

Night hike in the Bosque Eterno de los Niños:
The Bosque Eterno de los Niños (Children’s Eternal Rainforest) is the largest private reserve in Costa Rica with an area of 20,000 hectares of protected rainforest in the north-east of the country. The reserve is bordered by the Arenal National Park, the higher part of Monteverde, Miramar and the Alberto Manuel Brenes Reserve in San Ramón. You enjoy a hike between day and night, which gives you the opportunity to compare the different activities of the forest in daylight and after sunset. The tour is accompanied by an experienced local guide and starts at 5:30 pm with the last sunlight of the day and ends around 7:30 pm in complete darkness.

Francisco is a direct descendant of the “Leitón” family, one of the first Costa Rican families to settle in Monteverde in the 1920s, thirty years before the arrival of the Quakers. Francisco was born and raised in the cloud forest and began his career as a nature guide at a very young age. With more than fifteen years of experience, Francisco provides travelers with all his knowledge of the flora and fauna of the region and specializes in bird watching tours when he is not involved in the regular operations of the hotel.
Cala Lodge offers cozy accommodation at a reasonable price, isolated from noise and crowds and surrounded by a beautiful forest with easy access to the main attractions in the area. Today you will visit the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. Situated high on the slopes of the Cordillera de Tilarán (1,500 m), the Santa Elena Reserve covers an area of 310 hectares. The efforts made to protect the region focus on the creation of forest corridors, which also protect the fauna of the area: the quetzal, pumas, jaguars, ocelots and red macaques, which need a large territory to forage and raise offspring.
