Visit the world-famous Tortuguero National Park, one of the most important nesting sites for the Green Sea Turtle, the Leatherback and the Hawksbill Turtle. Together with your guide, you will discover the small canals where the bordering vegetation forms amazing tunnels, nature presents itself from the most beautiful tropical side: Caimans, crocodiles, poison-arrow frogs, monkeys and manatees are just a few examples of Tortuegero’s abundant fauna.

A sweet surprise is waiting for you: Chocolate, which was once one of the most important products for the Mayan and Aztec cultures, as well as other Central American cultures. The Chocolate Tour in the Tirimbina Reserve begins with crossing the popular suspension bridge to a former cacao-tree (Theobroma cacao) plantation. During the walk, you will learn about the natural and cultural history of the cacao tree and, upon reaching the plantation, a guide of the Tirimbina Reserve will reveal the secrets of how a cacao fruit transforms into chocolate. You’ll see the chocolate-making process first-hand and will have the opportunity to treat your taste buds to organic rainforest chocolate.

Bats represent almost 50% of the mammals in Costa Rica (113 species in total). Visitors are firstly invited to watch a multimedia presentation of about 30 minutes regarding the natural history of bats, their classification, diversity, adaptations, reproduction, threats and more. Later you have the chance to observe up close some of the bats that were captured during the evening for research projects. Finally, you visit the site of a demonstration snare net such as is used in bat research, where the method of capturing bats is explained. The bats are captured and held for less than 2 hours. The methods used insure the wellbeing of the animals.

Tube Down the Rio NegroEnjoy non-stop fun and excitement bouncing and splashing down five km (three miles) of Class II and III rapids along this narrow, rushing river of crystal clear water. There are plenty of quiet pools along the way to appreciate the beautiful tropical scenery of the Rio Negro (Black River). Our special, individual river tube rafts are designed with handles and protective bottoms. Guides go with you and ensure your safety and enjoyment throughout the duration of your experience.Part of your river tubing adventure includes riding our trusty Costa Rican ranch horses from Hacienda Guachipelin along scenic trails through the forest to get to the river.

During this activity, you will visit the Curi-Cancha private reserve, an ideal place to explore natural trails with a variety of habitats, with the opportunity to observe birds and mammals in open areas of secondary and primary forest; all this in an area that borders the Monteverde Cloud Forest, which includes the Pre-Montane Humid forest in the first part of the tour and Montane Humid forest in other zones, a preferred sites for some species of birds and mammals.
