Itinerary

Day 1 :
San José

Welcome to Costa Rica!

Upon arrival at San José Airport, our driver will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel in the city. Upon arrival at the hotel a representative will be waiting for you, during this meeting we will explain you the details of your trip as well as expert tips.

You start your Costa Rica adventure with a trip to the “little Amazon of Costa Rica”.

Early morning pick-up from your city hotel. Drive through the Braulio Carillo National Park to the Atlantic coast. On the way, stop for a hearty breakfast in Guapiles. Then drive through extensive banana plantations to the boat landing stage. There you change to a motorboat, which takes you across the main canal through the Tortuguero region to a rustic but comfortable lodge situated on a spit of land between the canal and the sea.

If you wish, you can visit the picturesque Caribbean village of Tortuguero with the local guide after lunch and then return to the lodge.

The rest of the day is at leisure.

Today you will visit the world-famous Tortuguero National Park by boat, one of the most important habitats of the green sea turtle, the leatherback turtle and the hawksbill turtle. Here you can admire tropical nature at its best: Caimans, crocodiles, poison dart frogs, monkeys and manatees are just a few examples of the overwhelming wildlife in Tortuguero. You will then explore the area around the lodge with a guide.

In the afternoon, you will go on a boat tour through the jungle canals of Tortuguero National Park.
After dinner, there is the option of a guided night hike to the beach to watch the sea turtles lay their eggs (season: July to September/October).

After breakfast, you return to the small river port by boat at around 9 am the next morning. After a drive through extensive banana plantations, you stop for a typical local lunch on the way. Pick up your rental car there and make your own way to Puerto Viejo.

Snorkeling & Walking Tour with Lunch & Transfer

Today’s tour takes place in a boat with space for 15 people, captain and guide, around the Cahuita National Park, which is the first place in the world where there is square meter by square meter more biodiversity in the different ecosystems on land and in the sea; You will snorkel for about two hours in the most important coral reef in Costa Rica, observing different species of corals, tropical fish, sharks, moray eels, sea urchins, mollusks, crustaceans, algae, sea turtles, sea cucumbers, sea sponges, lobsters, shrimps and much more.

After snorkeling, you will begin the second stage of the tour: the hike to various points between Punta Cahuita and the village of Cahuita (5 km). You can observe different species of snakes, sloths, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, anteaters, armadillos, raccoons, blue morpho butterflies and others, birds and much more.
The price includes a fruit snack, snorkeling equipment, a bilingual guide, lunch, return trip to the hotel and hike through the national park as well as water to take with you. Duration approx. 7 to 8 hours, minimum 2 people. The entrance fee to the national park can be paid as a voluntary donation.

Free days on the Caribbean coast! Long walks on wild beaches, impressive panoramic views of the Caribbean coast in the Manzanillo nature reserve followed by a swim at the tranquil Punta Uva beach, snorkeling or diving, sloth hunting in the Cahuita National Park or sporting activities such as mountain biking or kayaking.

Afterwards, treat yourself to a delicious fruit shake and try the traditional “Rice & Beans”, which is prepared with coconut milk.

Day 7 :
La Fortuna

You continue the round trip after breakfast and drive back along the Atlantic lowlands to Guápiles. Via “Muelle” you will then reach the village of La Fortuna, situated at the foot of the Arenal volcano, around midday. In good weather, the almost perfect cone can be seen from afar.

Day 8 :
La Fortuna

Hiking Arenal Volcano Trail 68 with Ecotermales + Dinner

Today you will visit the majestic Arenal volcano. It is the main attraction of La Fortuna, with an almost perfect cone of 1657 meters high. At the beginning of the hike, you will enter the landscape of the primary forest with natural trails where you will have an abundance of plants, huge trees and the opportunity to observe the local fauna that inhabits the private reserve. This part of the trail surprises every visitor with its scenic beauty.

After leaving the forest, you will walk through the most anticipated section: the volcanic lava trails, where our guide will give you important information about the formation of the Arenal volcano, its eruption phases, as well as details about the 1968 eruption and the changes it caused in the region. From here you will also have an excellent view of the Laguna Verde and Lake Arenal.

After the hike, you will have the opportunity to choose between the most popular hot springs in the area to relax and have dinner.

Today you will head north to the Rincón de la Vieja National Park.

Rincon de la Vieja is a place where the volcanic component with its fumaroles, lagoons and Pailas de Barro is combined with a great variety of ecosystems and impressive landscapes, waterfalls, regenerating grasslands and primary forests.

Day 11 :
Santa Elena

Your journey today takes you to the cool cloud forest region of Monteverde. Thanks to the altitude of this destination, 1550m above sea level, an interesting variety of species, typical of high-altitude tropical forests, thrives here.

You will have the feeling of being on top of the world, but in reality you have arrived in the center of the country’s continental divide. In Monteverde, the sun-drenched faces of beach dwellers are replaced by the warm smiles of farmers, artists, naturalists and nature lovers, especially in the small but cozy town of Santa Elena.

Nocturnal Walk with Transportation

Night hike in the Bosque Eterno de los Niños:

The Bosque Eterno de los Niños (Children’s Eternal Rainforest) is the largest private reserve in Costa Rica with an area of 20,000 hectares of protected rainforest in the north-east of the country. The reserve is bordered by the Arenal National Park, the higher part of Monteverde, Miramar and the Alberto Manuel Brenes Reserve in San Ramón. You enjoy a hike between day and night, which gives you the opportunity to compare the different activities of the forest in daylight and after sunset. The tour is accompanied by an experienced local guide and starts at 5:30 pm with the last sunlight of the day and ends around 7:30 pm in complete darkness.

Day 12 :
Santa Elena

Hanging Bridges

Today you will enjoy a walk through the sky – “Selvatura” is a private nature reserve in the heart of the Monteverde cloud forest region. Most of the forest is almost untouched mountain cloud forest, characterized by dense bromeliad and moss growth on the trees. Hundreds of bird species and numerous mammals live here. A system of 8 suspension bridges up to 160 m high gives visitors a view of the treetops and wildlife of this natural paradise.

Today we head to the popular Manuel Antonio National Park on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

This is located seven kilometers south of the town of Quepos, directly on fine sandy, bright and palm-covered Pacific beaches and offers very good opportunities for wildlife watching.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Today you will visit the Manuel Antonio National Park. This national park is one of the most famous in our country due to its great diversity of flora and fauna specimens. The park has 3 different hiking trails that vary in difficulty from flat to very steep. On this tour through Manuel Antonio you will be accompanied by a nature guide who knows everything you will see. The path you will take is flat and scenic and runs for about 3 kilometers through the park. During the tour, the guide will stop and explain the different specimens of nature that you can observe, take photos or simply admire the view. One of the highlights of this tour through Manuel Antonio is that the park is home to 3 of the 4 species of monkeys found in Costa Rica. Halfway through the hike, you will make a stop at the third beach of the national park. You have about 20 minutes to relax on the beach or play in the waves. During the hike, you can observe sloths, birds and reptiles as well as admire orchids, butterflies and tropical trees. The guides accompanying you on this tour of Manuel Antonio are equipped with Pentax and Suvaroski telescopes, allowing you to observe the wildlife and take photos from a different perspective.

Animals, beach and sea! Enjoy the day at the public beach Playa Espadilla or Playa Biesanz or explore the most popular and most visited national park in the country. A hike takes you to the dream beaches and through the park’s rainforest. You are likely to encounter capuchin monkeys, sloths and land crabs along the way.

Day 16 :
Drake Bay

The wild south is calling! In the morning, drive along the coastal road to Sierpe, where you drop off your rental car at the Las Vegas restaurant. From here, take the Pirate Cove boat through the mangrove area to the lodge near Drake Bay. With a bit of luck, you may spot dolphins or whales during the crossing.

In the afternoon you can enjoy the beach.

Day 17-18 :
Drake Bay

Days off in Drake Bay! Unwind and enjoy the views of the Pacific while listening to the sounds of nature and its inhabitants. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you can find peace and quiet here and connect completely with nature.

Alajuela

Today you will drive back to the Drake Bay airstrip, where you will take your flight from Drake Bay to San Jose.

Upon arrival at the airport in San Jose, a private transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in San Jose.

Today it’s time to say goodbye!
